Tjarnabyggð is at the cutting-edge in offering residents high tech telecommunications access.

With Síminn Telecom’s installation of ethernet in Tjarnabyggð, the community will be the first in Iceland to completely adopt ethernet connections. The residents can now enjoy perfect internet coverage and the best variety of quality programming with Síminn Television. Tjarnabyggð is looking at the telecommunications of the future and it will fulfil all communication needs for the years to come.

Ethernet offers the advantage of a much faster internet speed than is possible with other types of connection.

Bandwidth is assured all the way: there are no bottlenecks anywhere along the line, allowing higher connection speeds to and from the user. By moving the home telephone over to the ethernet system as well, a traditional phone line is no longer required at all.

With Síminn Television, users gain access to all Icelandic television stations and over 60 foreign channels offering the best variety in quality programming. Síminn Television also offers the popular SkjáBíó video rental channel, where you can choose from a huge selection of films and many other great features – from your sofa, using just your remote control!

Do you want to take part?

While Síminn is still fine tuning the service, Tjarnabyggð residents are invited to take part in user trials, meaning they can use the service without paying for it.

Participants do not need to have any expert technical knowledge – they just have to be interested in using as many as possible of the features Síminn offers. Trial participants receive high speed internet, as well as home phone and the Síminn Television service.

Right now participants receive the following without charge:

• 30 Mbps internet service with no monthly download limit
• Two Síminn Television decoders for home use
• The “Allt” comprehensive television package – over 60 Icelandic and foreign channels
• Basic telephone line rental for the trial period
• 10GB “Safnið” online storage for your files

All these services will be provided on the ethernet network, which means excellent net, telephone and television coverage.

The user trials began in the spring of 2008 and the end of the free trial will be announced with due notice. At the end of the trials, Síminn will start offering the new ethernet coverage in Tjarnabyggð as a regular, reliable and permanent service.

Síminn will send out a monthly questionnaire which participants are obliged to fill out.

Síminn needs access to the property in order to set up the service in the participants’ homes.
